MINUTIAE
Of course there will be errors however hard I try to avoid them but if you find any please let me know so that I can correct them for
the next update. Each update involves almost a day's work to prepare and upload and this is why they will not be undertaken lightly and why I am figuring on doing it monthly although at first it may be necessary to update more frequently .

We have formed a Group of Pedigree sites and you can find URLS to many Breeds by clicking here. Thank you for visiting and I hope you find this site
useful. If you can tear yourself away from Basenji Pedigrees, visit Zande Basenjis, meet the pack, find many articles, photos, Standards ancient & modern, UK Show Results, dates & future judges and hundreds of useful links to other Basenji sites

In the past few weeks I have been wrestling with problems associated with putting my entire Basenji Database on the web as a resource for everyone interested in our historical and challenging breed.
I started keeping Basenji records in about 1984 so this database is almost 20 years of ongoing work (and expense in time and subscriptions to all kinds of National Registries / Stud Book and other sources of Basenji pedigrees !) - this seems a suitable time to go public.
There will be updates - probably monthly - as time permits or the influx of pedigree data demands. I hope that this on-line facility will galvanise Breeders from all around the world to help this project by updating me on titles, new litters and, (from countries whose data I find difficulty in obtain in bulk) completely new data.
If you can't wait to explore this site click here however I should be grateful if you would take a little time to read to the end of this page before going on a hunt.
The intention here is to endeavour to include as many Basenjis on whom data can be found as possible - pets, rescues, pet-store pups, stunning champions, outstanding producers - from all corners of the globe.
There are other resources available to researchers more specific to countries where Basenjis are bred and exhibited. In particular The Years of the American Basenji (YOTAB). This site is by no means an alternative to that superlative publication which, with annual updates and far more photos of historical dogs than I can hope to accommodate, should be used in conjunction with this site. The URL leads to the Basenji Bibliography on my 'home page' where you will find details of other Basenji Pedigree books - from Germany, Norway, Australia & Denmark, among others. They offer hard copy - and I have never thought TV or the Internet can rival a good book !
Without so many people around the world willing to help, share information, tell me about new litters, none of this would have been possible. You are all part of the enterprise and I sincerely hope you will continue to provide data so this History of the Basenji Breed can continue and expand.
My mentor throughout the uploading and preparation of this site has been Christine. She has a similar site with better than three hundred thousand Dobermann Pedigrees. Without her, and Jim who devised the program - Alfirin Technologies, I would never have contemplated the exercise.
One reason for merely lurking on the Show-List of late has been a desire to have the data as correct as possible. This has involved numerous exercises using a combination of my favourite Pedigree programme, Chuck Orange's 'PEDWIN', and Microsoft ACCESS, along with visits to the AKC and other websites. I hope there are now only a very few misspellings duplicating correct names, and am pretty convinced now that only 1 litter is recorded as being born before the birth data of Papa. Hard copy from the Kennel Club of the country concerned has failed to clarify this obvious impossibility. Oh well !
Naturally I will be more than happy to make any corrections which can be verified and to add titles as soon as possible after your dogs' successes. Please email me zandebasenjis@btopenworld.com and keep all that data coming in !
If we find the settings need altering to enable longer visits / more searches, email me and I will fix it.
Wherever possible, the spelling used has been checked with the registries and official publications of the appropriate countries - entries from results sites and other sources may need to be amended as time goes on. On rare occasions, where a Breeder is convinced that the registration department of whatever Kennel Club or National Registry has 'got it wrong' - I have used the version from the official body. I am only too well aware that we breeders can forget over time !
I have not included any Breeders - this is a history of the Basenjis themselves.
Recently there has been a wealth of discussion on the Basenji Show List about 'openness' on health issues. As many of you will know, I have an immense amount of verified health data and absolutely NO intention of making any of it public. I may suggest lines of research, normally advising "ask the Breeder" but if anyone has a sensible and workable way to use this website, I am open to such suggestions but not to breaches of confidentiality. My intention in the gathering of health data has always been to keep it for the use, maybe, of generations of Breeders as yet unborn. The time may come (hopefully after I am long gone) that the very future of the Breed depends on total openness and honesty.
It seems to me that it is all part of the rich fabric of our Breed History which I hope is portrayed at least in part in these Pedigrees and the other potential resources of the programme - various research facilities are available, siblings / half siblings etc, litters, progeny along with the forebears provided in the Pedigrees themselves.
There is space in this programme for photos and I am avidly collecting them from your websites if you have given me permission. It is particularly interesting if you have photos of wonderful dogs who have crossed the Rainbow Bridge although any Basenjis, champions, pets, rehomed rescues and house-pests are all equally welcome. You can send me the exact URL of your website page so I can collect photos and add them to this database, or you can email them direct as .jpg attachments. Any photos you send me need to be identified with the Basenji's full name and to be small enough to allow speedy down-loading of the pages.

I am freely sharing many years of work with you so was devastated to discover someone has been sending robots to 'spider' sites such as this one and to 'steal' (poach or pillage) pedigree data for use on a site which requires payment to access. Various hindrances are now in place. I gave up trying to install a password system - the delay necessitated by its operation would be frustrating to all genuine visitors to this site. The daily logs will show me who is visiting.
